Director of Faith Formation/ Coordinator of Youth Ministry

Job Overview

In collaboration with the pastor, the Director of Faith Formation/ Coordinator of Youth Ministry is responsible for planning, implementing and directing the various aspects of faith formation at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church.  These areas include the religious education of elementary and high school, RCIA, and adult education opportunities.  This position is also responsible for coordinating the youth ministry activities of the parish.  The recruitment, training, and scheduling of volunteers will be a critical part of this role in both capacities.

Responsibilities and Duties

Manage the PSR program of the parish:

     Coordinate volunteer catechists for regular classroom instruction.

     Facilitate the Family of Faith program, ensuring that the parent meetings and the community meetings are properly organized and instructed.

     Collaborate with the Diocesan Office of Faith Formation to ensure parish adherence to diocesan standards or expectations.

Coordinate the high school religious formation, which will include confirmation preparation.

Direct the RCIA in collaboration with the pastor, addressing the inquiries of those possibly seeking to join the Church, arranging the class schedule, and coordinating the various rites that occur throughout the program.

Plan and conduct the weekly regular youth ministry activities.

      Facilitate the connection to both regional (volleyball, softball, Region 3 choir, etc.) and diocesan events.

Assist in planning or facilitating the annual youth ministry events, such as the March for Life, Steubenville, DCYC, etc.

Facilitate Totus Tuus, which is sponsored by Sacred Heart and St. Mark and hosted at St. Mark every other year.

Help in the creation of various adult education opportunities, either utilizing available programs or offering local opportunities for adults of the parish to grow in their knowledge of the faith.

Recruit and train volunteers for all of the programs carried out under the direction of the position.

Meet regularly with the pastor to ensure that he is informed of the content of the programs and that all is being carried out according to his direction.

Serve as the official liaison between the parish and the Office of Faith Formation and show a willingness to work with youth ministry programs at other parishes.

Be available at regular times in the parish office to coordinate with other parish staff and parishioners.

In collaboration with the Safe Environment Coordinator, ensure that all volunteers have received the appropriate training and are following the necessary guidelines.

Additional responsibilities as agreed to in conjunction with the pastor.

Qualifications

 Practicing Catholic in good standing

 Background in youth ministry or religious education would be helpful

 Degree in Theology or related field would be preferred

 Planning, Organizational, and Collaborative skills necessary

 Leadership skills in dealing with a variety of ages

 Flexibility in scheduling to include evenings and weekends

 Good time-management skills

 Show a willingness to adapt as the circumstances of the parish life change

 Must obtain VIRTUS training prior to start
